Our U18 ladies had an eventful playoff season to say the least!
After finishing second overall in our playoff pool, we faced Stratford Aces U18B in the quarterfinals. Jumping to a 2-0 lead early on, Stratford Aces managed to score two goals back by early on in the third period. The remainder of the third period comprised of good plays at both ends, with no goals being scored. Just as the coaching staff was looking at overtime rules on the bench, we scored with 1:53 left on the clock in the third to go ahead 3-2. The Inferno managed to hold onto the lead and secured their semi-final spot.
The Semi-Final game was a tough game against a strong Wilmot Wolverines U18C team. Wilmot scored midway through the second period to go ahead 1-0 in the game. The Inferno ladies never gave up and in a last ditch effort with the goalie pulled, scored the tying goal with 5 seconds left on the clock. The game went to overtime and after good opportunities at both ends, the Inferno ladies managed to score the winning goal with 1:20 left to go in overtime.
2026 WOGHL Division II finals were held this past weekend, hosted by Belmont Blazers in Dorchester. Our West Oxford Inferno ladies were up against the Chatham-Kent Crush U18B team for the finals. Inferno jumped out to an early lead with a goal just a couple minutes into the game. Chatham battled back and managed to score 3 unanswered goals. Our West Oxford Inferno ladies never gave up scoring one more back near the end of the second period to bring the score within one at 3-2. The ladies never gave up and managed to score the tying goal with 5 minutes to go in the game. The momentum carried into the next shift and Inferno scored a go-ahead goal just 17 seconds later. Chatham put on a big push at the end to try to get a goal back, but Inferno was able to hold onto the lead and win the championship!
